Can You Handle the Truth?

TruthA classic scene in the movie “A Few Good Men” involves a scene with Tom Cruise’s character interrogating Jack Nicholson’s character in the court room. Cruise yells “I want the truth!” Nicholson’s memorable response is, “You can’t handle the truth!”

It still amazes me the number of people that look for the road to easy riches on the internet. They buy up books like “Six-Figure Blogging” or “Six-Figure Freelancing” thinking that the secret is hidden in there. What they choose to ignore is all of the statements these authors make letting their readers know that it takes time to build a profitable business, and it is a lot of hard work.

That, my friends, is the truth. Unfortunately, many people can’t handle the truth.

Despite the many times they have been told, they would prefer to believe that El Dorado exists, and if they search long enough, they will find it.

Here is another truth they choose to ignore: If they would have devoted the effort and resources that they wasted searching for easy riches toward building a business, most of them would have realized at least some success. Instead, most of them are worse off than when they started.

Whether you are a freelance writer, have dreams of being a professional blogger, or use writing for your own marketing projects, it still comes down to the same thing; spend the time and effort building your business one step at a time. Make a plan for what you want to accomplish, then work your plan. Don’t get discouraged when things don’t work out the way you originally planned, or when profits are too small. Continue to grind it out. It takes time and effort to build a successful business. That is the truth.

Can you handle it?
